PARADE HOUSEKEEPING RULES

The following rules are to ensure that everyone attending the parade, whether a participant or spectator, has an enjoyable, accident-free day. We are here to help you complete your part successfully, so you can enjoy the wonderful parade & ceremony we have planned for you and all our visitors.

1. Moving Parade: This is a moving parade. Please do not stop for activities unless the entry in front of you stops. Your walking crew MUST keep up with your float or group. The parade WILL NOT STOP to wait for walkers. If your float or vehicle breaks down, please move over to the side of the road so that the units behind you can keep moving.

2. Tossing Items: NO MATERIALS MAY BE THROWN ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE FROM MOVING VEHICLES OR FLOATS. Only the walking crew and participants on foot are permitted to hand out candy and/or promotional items to the crowd, and should not encourage the audience to leave the curb or move into the street; items must be handed out from the side to prevent people from getting too close to moving vehicles. REASON: Young children may run to retrieve thrown items and could be in danger from the wheels of vehicles or floats.

3. No Paper Materials: NO PAPER MATERIALS (i.e., written flyers, booklets, pamphlets, brochures, coupons, etc.) ARE TO BE DISTRIBUTED AT THE PARADE OR CEREMONY.

4. Political Participation & Community Standards: The Fairhaven July 4th Parade is a non- partisan, family-oriented celebration of our nation’s independence and not a political parade or platform for protest. While political candidates and their supporters are welcome to join the procession, we remind all participants that this is a community event for families and children— not a platform for political statements, agendas, controversial issues, or protests, regardless of the cause. To ensure a festive and safe atmosphere for all attendees, this celebration may not be used as an opportunity to advance a political agenda or party. All participants must behave respectfully and comply strictly with the directions of Parade Marshals. No inappropriate behavior, disruption of the event, or violation of parade rules will be accepted. Any entry viewed as attempting to advance a political cause/party will be required to remove the offending materials or face immediate removal from the parade at the discretion of the Parade Marshals.

5. Cancellation: In the event we have to cancel due to weather, you will be notified by email

with the email address you provided on your registration form.

6. ABSOLUTELY NO SOLICITATION of any kind is allowed along the parade route or at the ceremony at Fort Phoenix by any parade entry or third party.

Please be courteous of our neighbors along Green Street and at Fort Phoenix.
